Do you want to know the best travel websites for booking flights, accommodation and everything else that makes for an amazing budget trip? Then you have come to the right place.

Listed below are all the best travel websites that I actually use to plan my own epic adventures.

FLIGHTS

This is my favourite website to search for flights - I have been using it for years. It has a 'search everywhere' function so you can find a cheap destination and it also shows you the best budget airlines for travelling. If you aren't fussy about dates you can use its 'search by month' function to find the cheapest day to fly on.

Another two great search engines are Kayak and Kiwi. They both look very similar in that they use a map function so you can visually picture your destination/route. This is great as you can see all your worldwide travel options at one time. I personally find the Skyscanner list view easiest to navigate. All are great options and have similar search features which allows you to compare the best deals.

ACCOMMODATION

I have used this site for years but sometimes it can get a little confusing as to what you are actually booking. It has hotels, hostels and apartments to choose from and the layout can be a little messy, so check the details before booking.

One of the best things about Booking.com is that most of the rooms come with free cancellation up to a certain date and you don't always have to pay a deposit or booking fee. This is great if like me, you prefer to be a little fluid with your plans whilst backpacking.

Since being in China I have come across a few problems through no fault of Booking.com and their customer service has been incredible so I would highly recommend them.

If you haven't heard of this site then climb out of your hole and prepare to be amazed. Air BnB gives you the chance to book unique homestays around the world with a much more personal feel than that of a hotel. You can rent everything from a sofa bed to a mansion and Air BnB has led many industry insiders to claim that hotels are on their way to extinction.

It also has the option to book for long periods of time at a discounted rate which makes Air BnB a great option for the digital nomad. You can book a home away from home so it's like you have your own place in a new country.

Do be careful though as these are peoples home so you shouldn't expect a hotel experience. Make sure you read the reviews and go for a rated host. Never pay people outside of the site to avoid fraudulent behavior. Follow the rules and you should be fine.

I have had nothing but amazing experiences on the site.

If I'm looking to stay in a hostel then this is my go-to option. Comprehensive listings of thousands of hostels from around the world make this one of the easiest and safest ways to book the hostel of your dreams. You can find everything from sociable dormitory rooms to more private spaces for couples or solo travellers. It also gives you the opportunity to read honest reviews left by fellow backpackers which means you can sleep easy after booking.

I recently stumbled upon Agoda and booked the whole of my last trip on this site. The website is really modern and much more visually pleasing than Booking.com, their prices were also lower.

Tip: I always like to compare a few sites to get the best deal.

This has just become my new favourite website. Instead of trawling for hours on different sites this comparison site combines the cheapest prices from all the other comparison sites. Travelling has never been easier than in the 21st century!

TRAINS

In China, the train is the best way to get around much of the country. China's train links are some of the best in the world and the high-speed train can get you to your destination in next to no time. The easiest way to secure your tickets is to book online with Trip.com. You then take your booking code and passport to any train station in China to pick up the tickets. One thing that annoys me is there is a booking fee for each individual ticket so keep that in mind. You do however receive points which can be redeemed for money off hotels, transport, and other services.

They also book flights and hotels so you can get everything on one handy site. They have also branched out into other countries which I'm yet to experience but its the only site I use here in China. If you have a Chinese bank account then you can use WeChat to pay which makes it really handy if you live in China.

This is coming to you from someone who has had to claim travel insurance for numerous reasons. It’s better to be safe than sorry.
